Ever since Hans showed me the way with his 5×5 of Sibley, I’ve been mildly obsessed with this format. It’s so quick to put together and forces to you to think about what’s really necessary to tell the story. That said, I think I failed in my recent attempt to tell a *good* story, but it was really fun to shoot and even more fun to ride:

http://vimeo.com/57996219

Video was shot just a 10 minute ride from our house in Henderson, NV on/around Anthem East Trail (PDF). I’m spending all my rides (all 3 of them) exploring this area as it’s so close to our house.

Video is 1080/30P and shot on my “Faux Pro” (ya know, instead of a Go Pro), my new Galaxy S3 in an OtterBox. I never would have though of shooting first person cycling videos, but the Otter clipped so nicely on my camel back strap!

Spider web and Hard Drives https://blog.plip.com/2011/10/02/spider-web-and-hard-drives/ https://blog.plip.com/2011/10/02/spider-web-and-hard-drives/#respond Mon, 03 Oct 2011 03:09:10 +0000 http://plip.com/blog/?p=924 0 minutes, 13 seconds

What to do on a sunny weekend? Why, hose down your local spider web, line up hard drives and take videos and photos of them all, of course! It is pretty insane just how fast that hard drive head moves. Check out the video below.

Oil, Water and tasty Vodka https://blog.plip.com/2011/04/29/oil-water-and-tasty-vodka/ https://blog.plip.com/2011/04/29/oil-water-and-tasty-vodka/#respond Sat, 30 Apr 2011 03:07:00 +0000 http://plip.com/blog/?p=836 0 minutes, 36 seconds

Well, OK, not all three together. First up, while doing dishes some hot water hit some congealed butter at the bottom of a Pyrex. The butter melted, but not into tiny particles, but into larger circles. It was memorizing. Well, it was for dorks like me, have a looksee:

Now on to the tasty Vodka. This is slight variation on the standard Cosmo:

  • 1 part Imperia vodka
  • 1 part Cointreau
  • 1 part cranberry cocktail
  • Juice from 1/2 a small lime

The best part? I’d tried to do the same with tripple sec and a lemon the night before and my super cool wife bought me the right proper Cointreau and a lime. I came home to find this (see first pic) which I had to make into a tasty drink using the above proportions:

On a bed of Quinoa https://blog.plip.com/2010/09/01/on-a-bed-of-quinoa/ https://blog.plip.com/2010/09/01/on-a-bed-of-quinoa/#respond Thu, 02 Sep 2010 04:07:22 +0000 http://plip.com/blog/?p=679 0 minutes, 16 seconds

Much like the form Thermodynamics post, this video is good one to watch and try to figure out what it is before the camera zooms out:

If you listen carefully you can hear the sweetie say something about “sleeping a bed of quinoa” near the end.

If you’re still wondering what the video is of, here’s the answer.

I need to do a better job of not being mr-jerky-cam, but my gaffers were on strike that day, so I had to do it all myself.

How to embed Vimeo Videos: The hard way https://blog.plip.com/2010/05/04/how-to-embed-vimeo-videos-the-hard-way/ https://blog.plip.com/2010/05/04/how-to-embed-vimeo-videos-the-hard-way/#respond Wed, 05 May 2010 07:41:08 +0000 http://plip.com/blog/?p=590 0 minutes, 48 seconds

I’ve been chatting with my friend about how to embed Vimeo videos on his site. He was trying to figure a way to do html5 and flash and auto-detect if you’re a desktop browser or a mobile browser (or an iPad). By using JavaScript he could show the user the right video. I’ve accepted this challenge and I introduce: Plip’s Vimeo JavaScript Embedder v.01. One thing I didn’t do was scour the Vimeo forums to see if this had been done. What I did set out to do was:

  • Learn Vimeo Simple API
  • Write code some one had requested
  • Have a programming goal that I could prove could be done in just one night

Arguably, I may not have achieved the last item as I actually haven’t tested it on a mobile device yet (yeah, I’m a lazy, lazy man), but I’m pretty sure it’ll work on a WebKit device.

It should be noted, I don’t think I’m a very good JavaScript coder and this is version .01. Even so, should I add a “JavaScript” category?!

Vimeo Does AVHCD Light Test https://blog.plip.com/2010/02/28/vimeo-does-avhcd-light-test/ https://blog.plip.com/2010/02/28/vimeo-does-avhcd-light-test/#respond Sun, 28 Feb 2010 22:00:25 +0000 http://plip.com/blog/?p=482 0 minutes, 20 seconds

Hey there! A friend asked if Vimeo, who were then thinking of going with for plip.com videos, supported our camera’s AVHCD Light format. I’m happy to report, it does! Here’s to quick test clips I shot. Noteworthy is that Vimeo Plus, though a bit pricey, has excellent privacy settings which was a huge selling point to me.
